Ken Nakamura
Ken Nakamura, the founder and CEO of Dai-Ichi Motion Pictures (Los Angeles) and most recently the CEO of Tsunami Entertainment (Toronto), was born in Tokyo, Japan. He received his degree in Business from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1969.
Since launching Dai-Ichi Motion Pictures twenty years ago, as an acquisition consultant to the Pacific Rim, Ken Nakamura has been responsible for structuring complex distribution license agreements for ‘blockbuster’ hits such as Total Recall, Dances with Wolves, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Basic Instinct, Cliffhanger, Tombstone, I Love Trouble, Die Hard with a Vengeance and Mr. Holland’s Opus. His most recent acquisitions include The Pianist from Studio Canal, After the Sunset from New Line, Silmido from Cinema Service, 1408 from The Weinstein Company and Rambo 4 from Nu Image.
Combining his success in acquisitions, with many years of hands-on experience, Mr. Nakamura is focused on maximizing his unique position in the independent production and distribution of feature motion pictures and television productions.
Mr. Nakamura’s recent producing credits include Wrong Number, starring Eric Roberts and Brigitte Bako: winner Silver Award, WorldFest Houston 2001; The Spreading Ground starring Dennis Hopper, Leslie Hope and Frederic Forrest and directed by Derek Vanlit: nominated for Golden St. George Award, Moscow International Film Festival 2000, and winner Gold Award, WorldFest Houston 2000 and Provocateur, starring Jane March, Lilio Brancato, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Nick Mancuso and directed by Jim Donovan.
Mr. Nakamura, a Canadian citizen, now resides in Cambridge, Ontario.
